Brandy Sour book & wine evening
Join us for an intimate evening of storytelling, wine, and conversation as we explore the flavours, history, and culture of Cyprus through literature and wine. For one special evening, we'll gather at The Cottage, Edinburgh, for a book club experience centred around Brandy Sour— the acclaimed novel by Cypriot author Constantia Soteriou, translated into English by Lina Protopapa. Winner of the 2023 Cypriot National Book Prize, the novel examines identity, memory, family, and belonging against the backdrop of Cyprus and its complex history. Catch us at Fringe by the Sea 2026!
Night Owl Books will be returning to Fringe by the Sea this summer! From the 31st July until the 9th August the bookshop will have a signing table at each author event, as well as a pop-up bookshop in the Coulters Makers Market, where you’ll find a carefully curated selection of books for both adults and children, including signed titles by authors appearing at the festival. The bookshop will also be open as usual in East Linton, from 11 am to 7 pm Thursday to Monday. See the full festival line-up here.
Sara Sheridan at Haddstock Festival
Sara Sheridan, author of The Fair Botanists, will be speaking about her new, Edinburgh-set novel, The Jewel Keepers, at Haddington Library on Saturday, 30th May at 11am. The event is part of Haddstock festival, who have kindly invited us to have a pop-up book stall there. Learn more and book your tickets for the event here.
Georgian wine-themed book club with author Leo Vardiashvili & Slonk Wine
In May we'll be teaming up with Isobel Salamon of Slonk Wine to hold a Georgian wine-themed book club for one of my favourite books of the past few years, Hard by a Great Forest - and I'm thrilled that we'll be joined at the event by its author, Leo Vardiashvili. We'll be meeting at Sotto Enoteca in Stockbridge on Tuesday, 19th May, at 7.30pm, where we'll be enjoying two Georgian wines (or non-alcoholic alternatives) and curated nibbles while chatting with Leo about the book, followed by a book signing.
